The BlackBerry Key2 will be unveiled on June 7th at a press event in New York, confirms BlackBerry.
Blackberry Mobile on Friday confirmed that the much-anticipated successor to their 2017 mid-range phone BlackBerry KeyOne will launch on 7th June at a press event in New York. The firm also confirmed via Twitter that the device will be called the Blackberry Key2, and NOT ‘BlackBerry KeyTwo’.
Though this is the first time the firm even mentioned about the existence of such a handset, we’ve been fortunate enough to know pretty much everything there is to know about it thanks to incessant leaks and rumors that have been making rounds in the past few weeks.
Thanks to the recently discovered TENAA listing, we even know what it will look like. Take a look, in case you didn’t already:
In terms of looks, the Key2 shares a strikingly similar design to that of the Key1. Blackberry’s traditional physical qwerty keyboard is here to stay as well! However, it’s worth noting that the former will replace the single rear camera of the predecessor with a dual camera setup.
Per the TENAA renders, the device will feature a dual camera setup on the back, USB Type C port along with speaker setup on the bottom, SIM/microSD card slot on the left, and volume rocker, power button on the right side.
According to previous rumors, the device is said to pack a 4.5-inch IPS LCD screen with a display resolution of 1620×1080 pixels (same as that of the KeyOne). Besides that, it will be powered by octa-core Snapdragon 660 processor along with 6GB of RAM.
Additionally, the upcoming handset is rumored to be backed by a 3,360mAh battery which, if true, would be a slight improvement over the 3,505mAh on the forerunner.
For the sake of comparison, the original KeyOne was powered by octa-core Snapdragon 625 chipset coupled with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of onboard storage. There was a 3GB RAM variant as well with 32GB storage.
The camera department of the KeyOne was backed by a 12MP rear camera and an 8MP front-facing camera. Though TCL Communications confirmed Android Oreo update for KeyOne, it’s worth noting that the firm has not yet delivered their promise. The device still runs on Android 7.1 Nougat, which is a bummer as some OEMs have already started working on Android (9.0) P update for their devices.
