Samsung launches Galaxy S20, S20+, and S20 Ultra with 120Hz display and 8K video recording capabilities.
Bidding adieu to months of leaks and rumors, Samsung has finally launched its Galaxy S20 series of smartphones. As expected, the much-anticipated smartphone series brings with it three brand new Galaxy flagship smartphones, namely, Galaxy S20, Galaxy S20+, and Galaxy S20 Ultra. In case you didn’t catch up, the new smartphones were launched at an ‘Unpacked’ event in San Francisco, California, and they will take place of the Galaxy S10 series of last year. The details regarding its global availability have not been announced yet, however.
Samsung Galaxy S20, S20+, S20 Ultra Specs
Although the three devices sport displays of similar specs, it’s worth noting that they come in different sizes. Speaking of which, the S20 comes with a 6.2-inch Quad HD+ Dynamic AMOLED Infinity-O Display. The S20+ has a 6.7-inch Quad HD+ Dynamic AMOLED Infinity-O Display, while the Galaxy S20 Ultra gets the largest display of the three and features a 6.9-inch Quad HD+ Dynamic AMOLED Infinity-O Display. All the three panels, however, support a 120hz refresh rate and are certified HDR10+.
When it comes to the performance side of things, all the three phones come powered by Snapdragon 865 chipset, although the RAM size differs based on the variant. Also, it is worth noting that these handsets might come with Samsung’s Exynos 990 chipset in markets outside of the US, including India.
When it comes to RAM size, the 5G variant of the S20 and S20+ will sport 12 gigs of RAM. However, 4G LTE variants of the handsets will come with only 8GB of RAM. The most expensive of the three, S20 Ultra will get 16GB of RAM on its top-end variant. There is also one other variant of S20 Ultra with only 12 gigs of RAM. In terms of storage, Galaxy S20 will come with a maximum of 128 gigs, while the Galaxy S20+ and Ultra variants will be available in three different storage configurations — 128GB, 256GB, and 512GB.
Moving to the camera department, both the Galaxy S20 and the S20+ support hybrid optical zoom of up to 3X and total zoom of 30X. The two variants also share the main camera sensors in the setup, which consists of a 12MP ultra-wide, a 12MP wide-angle lens and a 64MP telephoto lens. The only difference is the presence of a ToF sensor on the S20+ variant.
Meanwhile, the Ultra variant also gets a quad-camera set-up on the rear, but with different sensor resolutions. The setup includes an ultra-wide 12-megapixel lens, a primary 108-megapixel wide-angle lens, a 48-megapixel lens that offers 100X Space Zoom, and a ToF sensor.
The Galaxy S20 Ultra variant also shows its superiority in the front-camera department as it boasts a 40MP sensor, while the other two comes with a 10MP one. The standard S20 is backed by a 4000mAh battery that supports 25W charging, Galaxy S20+ gets a 4500mAh battery that supports 45W fast charging, and Galaxy S20 Ultra has a massive 5000mAh one that supports 45W fast charging.
Price of Samsung Galaxy S20, S20+, S20 Ultra
While the global availability is not revealed as of yet, the price of the three devices in the US has been made official.
