Sony is all set to host a press event at this year’s MWC on February 24 in Barcelona. The company is expected to announce at least three new Xperia smartphones, with the most-anticipated among them being the Sony Xperia 1.1 (also known as Xperia 5 Plus). And now, according to the latest report coming out of a Japanese blog AndroidNext.info, the upcoming smartphone could pack dual front-firing stereo speakers and a total of five rear cameras on the rear.

Sony Xperia 1.1 / Sony Xperia 5 Plus camera setup

The report reveals that the quintuple camera setup on the upcoming Sony Xperia 5 Plus (or Xperia 1.1 — whatever Sony ends up calling the device) will consist of a 12-megapixel primary camera with a 1/1.5” sensor size, a 64-megapixel camera with 1/1.7-inch sensor size, a 12-megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera with 1/3.4-inch sensor size, a 2-megapixel ToF sensor, and a periscope unit with OIS.

Interestingly, the render of the camera setup obtained by AndroidNext echoes perfectly with the leaked phone renders we’ve seen a while ago. Therefore, it is highly likely that we’re looking at the actual camera specs of the incoming Xperia 1.1 handset. If it turns out to be true, it will undoubtedly be a strong contender against the upcoming flagships from other brands including Samsung Galaxy S20.

Sony Xperia 1.1 specs

Sony Xperia 1.1 is said to Sony’s first 5G handset and will be powered by Qualcomm’s latest and most powerful chipset, Snapdragon 865. Aptly named, the Xperia 5 Plus will be a ‘Plus’ variant of the existing Sony Xperia 5 handset, and will feature a larger 6.6-inch OLED display. Besides that, we expect it to have up to 12 gigs of RAM, 4000mAh battery and run Android 10 OS out of the box.

Sony Xperia 1.1 release date

Although the phone might likely debut at Sony’s MWC event scheduled on Feb 24, it’s not clear when it will hit the consumer markets. Going by the previous release cycles, it’s likely that we won’t get our hands on the device until June or July.
