Sony’s Xperia business may be tanking, but a new midrange phone – presumably the Xperia 6 – has been spotted on GeekBench.
A GeekBench listing has revealed that a Sony Xperia handset with mid-range specs and 5G connectivity may be underway. The upcoming handset – presumably the Xperia 6 – will mark the firm’s first smartphone to come onboard with 5G connectivity.
Codenamed K8220, the device managed to score a single-core testing score of 465 and a multi-core score of 1757. GSMArena believes that the CPU identifier mentioned in the listing echos to that of an upcoming Oppo phone – Reno3 Pro 5G, meaning the Xperia 6 (or whatever Sony ends up calling it) could be powered by the Snapdragon 765G or the standard Snapdragon 765 chipset.
Besides that, we know the incoming mid-range Xperia offering will pack 8GB RAM and run Android 10 OS out of the box. Although we don’t have an official launch date yet, our best guess is it will be unveiled early next year at CES 2020.
We also know that Sony is working on a 2020 flagship smartphone codenamed SM8250. Expected to be available in 5G and 4G variants, we believe this handset might also be unveiled alongside the Sony K8220.
Keep going for the GeekBench listing:
