Snapdragon 855, 845 and 840 Chipsets Confirmed

Apple’s A11 chipset may be the most powerful chipset in the market right now. But, that doesn’t mean the latest flagship chipset from Qualcomm is any slower. In fact, the Snapdragon 835 is the fastest chipset used in the Android smartphones so far and is at least 27% faster than last year’s Snapdragon 821. It’s this year’s first chipset to be made using the 10nm FinFET process, and thus, is highly power-efficient.

Majority of the Android flagships released this year are powered by SD835 chipsets. We thought the recently released Pixel 2 might come with a Snapdragon 836 chipset, but unfortunately, that didn’t happen. In fact, Qualcomm has reportedly killed the SD836 chipset for some reasons, unknown. So, Google had no choice other than using the Snapdragon 835 processors on its new Pixel lineup.

It’s no secret that Qualcomm is working on Snapdragon 845 chipsets, that is set to debut in 2018. We have even seen an alleged benchmark result showing it’s powerful than Apple’s last year’s A9 chipset. Tech blog True-Tech has spotted LinkedIn profiles of Qualcomm’s top execs wherein their description mentions the chipset name along with the 7nm manufacturing process.

And then, there is a yet another exec’s profile which mentions Snapdragon 855, 840 and 830. There have been reports that the SD830 might not see the light of the day as Qualcomm has allegedly axed it.

On the other hand, both Snapdragon 855 and 840 have appeared in GeekBench website previously, thus confirming their existence. While the former might launch later this year, the latter is expected to launch only in 2019. If rumors are anything to go by, Samsung’s Galaxy S8 Mini variant might launch with SD840 chipset on board.

There is almost nothing we don’t know about the Snapdragon 845 chipset. We know that it’ll mark Qualcomm’s flagship chipset of 2018 and that it should power the majority of Android flagships set to debut next year (We’re looking at you, Galaxy S9!). Going by the numbers, the Snapdragon 855 will launch only after SD845, and so the former might not be in the market until the beginning of 2019.
