Samsung is working on the 2018 edition of Gear 360 VR camera

2018 Samsung Gear 360 VR Camera is in the works

Remember the Samsung Gear 360 4K VR camera that debuted earlier this month? Probably not. Well, me neither! Reports have suggested that Samsung‘s 360-camera business has not been going very well as the firm expected. However, a new patent filing suggests that the Korean tech giant has plans for a 2018-edition of Gear 360 VR camera.

For the most part, the 2018 Gear 360 VR camera looks just like the 2017 variant, except that the forthcoming one will have small ‘legs’ so that it could stand on its own pretty much everywhere. That’s one good feature to have for an action camera if you ask me.

Besides that, we expect the upcoming Gear 360 VR camera to shoot videos at a better resolution than the current version. Although the 2017-edition of Gear 360 camera shoots pretty neat videos to be viewed on a smartphone or even a TV, it sure sucks (a bit) when viewed on a VR headset. So, here is a hoping that this forthcoming 360-degree camera comes with the support for 8K video recording.

Samsung showed that they could make great 360-degree cameras by showcasing the Gear 360 (2017) in March this year.

Personally, I’ve loved what Samsung has been doing with their Gear 360 cameras so far, and the 2017 version just had everything I wished for in a 360-degree action camera. And now, I can’t wait to see what the firm has in store for us come 2018.

The Gear 360 (2017) features two 8.4MP camera sensors and is capable of shooting videos at 4K resolution with a maximum frame rate of 24fps. Like every 360-degree cameras, the Gear 360 lets you view the content on a smartphone or a PC in real time, and also allows you to publish videos or go live on social media platforms such as Facebook, SnapChat and more.

Abhin’s love for all things tech started when he got his first smartphone, Galaxy S (the first), in 2010. Since then, he has been crazy about technology and tried out all major Android flagships from Samsung, and HTC. He currently uses a Google Pixel 4a as his daily driver.
