Nokia 2 is finally official! As expected, the device is a basically an entry-level handset from HMD Global that features low-end specs for a very reasonable price tag. Now, that the phone is finally official, you might be probably wondering whether to get this phone or not.
The HMD Global is clearly targetting the budget-conscious consumers rather than the big spenders. It’s pretty obvious when you take a look at the Nokia-branded Android phones released so far. It’s powered by Qualcomm’s low-end chipset, Snapdragon 212, along with 1GB RAM and 8GB internal storage. In terms of imaging, the device features an 8MP rear-facing camera and a 5MP front-facing camera. It runs Android 7.1.1 Nougat out of the box.

- A very reasonable price
Stop right there if you’re about to compare Nokia 2 with other phones this market. This phone is cheap, and by cheap, I mean extremely cheap! It’s way cheaper than the competition in the market and that is one of the reasons why we think the Nokia 2 is going to give its rivals a good run for their money. The handset is priced at 99 euros for the European markets, and boy, it is a steal for that money!
- Huge Battery Life
After the reasonable price tag, the next best reason to buy the Nokia 2 is for the huge battery life it’s offering. The company promises that the device can stay up for whopping 2 days after a full charge. Now, that’s impressive as not even the $1000-phones could possibly give that kind of battery life. Under the hood, the Nokia 2 is backed by a massive 4100mAh battery to provide juice for the device.
- Decent camera
If you thought you’ll be stuck with a mediocre camera for a 100-buck phone, then you’re dead wrong! The Nokia 2 handset comes with an 8-MP rear camera and a 5MP front-facing camera. Although these camera sensors may not be comparable to that of other Nokia devices, you sure won’t be disappointed with the pictures taken using the Nokia 2.

The Nokia 2 handset comes running Android 7.1.1 Nougat out of the box. As if that isn’t enough, Nokia has promised to update the device to Android 8.0 Oreo as soon as the software is done testing. - Processor is outdated
The processor used in the Nokia 2 handset — Snapdragon 212 — is pretty dated. Launched back in early 2016, Nokia Lumia 650 was the first phone to be powered by the Snapdragon 212 chipset. So, don’t expect the Nokia 2 smartphone to be as powerful as its potential rival Xiaomi Redmi 4a. Speaking of the latter, it is powered by a more powerful Snapdragon 425 processor and still sells for about $100.
- RAM size is too low
Blame it on the low price point, however, the RAM size on the new Nokia entry-level device is absurdly low at 1GB. On the flip side, its rival Redmi 4a comes with twice the RAM as the Nokia 2. If you are a person who does a lot of multi-tasking on your device, then it’s probably a good idea to pass on this phone.
- Internal storage size is absurdly low
The handset comes with 8GB of onboard storage; out of which, almost 5-6GB is used up by the system software alone. That means you’re left with only about 2GB of storage and that, my friend, is ridiculously lower than what the competitors have to offer. Meanwhile, the Nokia 2 rivals including the Redmi 4a and the Moto C Plus comes with at least 16GB of internal storage, which is fairly decent.
