According to security analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the forthcoming Galaxy Note 8 will come with 3x optical zoom support.

Samsung has already confirmed that the upcoming Galaxy Note 8 with dual camera setup will launch this August 23. As we are nearing the launch date, the daily dose of leaks and rumors popping up about the device has increased exponentially. However, the latest rumor comes courtesy of oft-reliable KGI Securities’ analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, who has a pretty good record for Samsung leaks.

The analyst has shared some worthwhile details regarding the dual camera setup on the Galaxy Note 8. According to him, the dual camera on the device will be a combination of 13MP and 12MP sensors. He further mentioned that the 13MP sensor will be a regular wide angle sensor, while the 12MP one will work as a telephoto sensor. Yes, we are talking about a setup similar to what we’ve seen on the iPhone 7 Plus and OnePlus 5.

He also confirmed that the sensors are built by Samsung itself and that both the sensors will come loaded with Optical Image Stabilization (OIS). Earlier this month, we reported that the camera on the Note 8 will be better than its competitors. Ming-Chi Kuo has just confirmed that report while suggesting that the Galaxy Note will offer 3x optical zoom support. To compare, the dual camera sensors on the iPhone 7 Plus offers 2x optical zoom.

To recap on the specs, the Galaxy Note 8 is tipped to feature a 6.3-inch Quad HD+ Super AMOLED edge-to-edge display with very narrow top and bottom bezels. It will probably house a Snapdragon 836 chipset under the hood, along with 6GB of RAM and 64 / 128GB of internal storage. It will pack a smaller battery compared to last year’s Note 7 and is tipped to be of 3,300 mAh capacity. Further, the phablet is expected to come in three color variants, including Black, Orchid Gray, and Blue.
