Way to go Best Buy!

The forever mounting cut-throat-ism in the retail sector is pushing companies to always be on top of their game. Take, for instance, Best Buy’s decision to expand its same-day delivery in a bid to tackle mounting competition from players like Amazon. The company recently announced that it will extend its same-day shipping feature to 27 cities across the US, starting September 6.

That’s nearly twice the number of cities it was offering this special delivery service to until now. But that’s not all. The company is also reducing the price for its service from $14.99 per order to $5.99 and making more products eligible for this time-bound service. The newly added cities to its same-day shipping service map include Sand Diego, Austin, Denver and Tampa. The expansion is in line with Best Buy’s plan to extend this facility to as many as 40 cities by the end of this year.

As part of the new policy, customers choosing same-day delivery for their orders on BestBuy.com – provided the order is placed by 3 pm on Mon to Sat and 2 pm on Sundays – will have their packages delivered by 9 pm. To facilitate smooth execution of same-day deliveries, the retailer has outsourced the delivery process to third-party contractor couriers.

The company president, Allison Peterson, released a statement that said: “We have always wanted to help our customers get their purchases from Best Buy how and when they want them. Our stores have always been an option, but we know that there are times when a customer wants their items delivered to them quickly. We’re happy that by the holidays, many more customers will be able to choose same-day delivery and have it be an option on more items than ever before.”

Market experts believe this expansion is in direct response to e-commerce giant Amazon’s Prime Now service that offers product delivery within a few hours. Best Buy remains one of the largest retailers of electronics in the US, with a 29.3 percent market share, and is, obviously, doing everything it can to maintain that top spot.
