OnePlus 5 users just got the best Christmas gift.

OnePlus founder, Carl Pei, just confirmed, in a tweet, that OnePlus 5 will get the Face Unlock feature that we previously thought was an exclusive for the new 5T handset.

Carl Pei’s tweet goes: “Due to popular demand, Face Unlock is coming for the OnePlus 5. Thanks for the feedback, and Merry Christmas!”. However, it’s worth noting that the feature is not included in the update that has started rolling out since yesterday.

On learning that the Face Unlock feature does not require any special sort of hardware aside from the normal front-facing camera, the OnePlus 3 and 3T users are curious to know if they too will get the enticing feature in the form of an incoming update.

Now, we sure as hell don’t know whether the older devices will get the new biometric security feature or not. But, it’s safe to assume that these devices won’t likely get the feature in any upcoming updates. After all, OnePlus previously told the users that Android Oreo would be their last major update and they’ve already kept their promise by rolling out the same two months ago.

Abhin’s love for all things tech started when he got his first smartphone, Galaxy S (the first), in 2010. Since then, he has been crazy about technology and tried out all major Android flagships from Samsung, and HTC. He currently uses a Google Pixel 4a as his daily driver.
