Google is apparently working on a new smart speaker to rival the Amazon Echo Show. The search giant’s latest app reveals several hints at an all-touchscreen Home device codenamed Quartz.

With the recent launch of Google Home Max and Home Mini, it’s pretty clear that the search giant is taking the smart speaker market very seriously. Smart speakers are becoming more common than ever before, and Amazon is still the king of the new market. But, new reports indicate that Google wants to snatch away a good share of the market from Amazon.

A new all-touchscreen Google Home device codenamed Quartz is in the works

A new report from AndroidPolice indicates that Google is apparently working on a new Google Home device that is all-touchscreen. We’re talking about a device similar to the Amazon Echo Show.

After the APK teardown of the latest Google app v7.14.15, the good folks at AndroidPolice found pieces of codes that refer to a device codenamed Quartz. The teardown revealed a plethora of features that could be used by the upcoming all-touchscreen Google Home device.

Google Home Quartz should be a great assistant while you’re cooking

The teardown of Google app revealed that the upcoming Google Home device will have the ability to show recipes and cooking preparation on the screen up front. This feature should come in handy while you’re cooking as it would be easier to catch up with displayed steps rather than listening to each one on the current Home devices.

Google Home Quartz will be awesome for video content consumption

Think of it as a portable TV… or rather an Android tablet. Unlike the existing Home devices, the upcoming Google Home Quartz will let you watch any sort of media content including pictures, YouTube videos, movies and more. The YouTube video playback feature on the Quartz may give it a relatively extra advantage over the Echo show as the latter does not support the feature, at least for now. Google has recently pulled YouTube video playback feature off the Echo device to bolster its entry into the smart speaker market.

Besides the aforementioned ones, the Google Home Quartz is said to come packed with other features like web browsing, Google Maps, timers, and more.

So, what do you think about this upcoming Google Home product? Are you looking for an Amazon Echo Show alternative from Google? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.
