Google Pixel 2 almost confirmed to have front facing speakers on board

Google’s new Data Transfer app on the Play Store reveals one of the key features of the next Pixel devices. The devices will launch this fall to take on the recently unveiled Galaxy Note 8 and forthcoming iPhone 8.

Google recently ported its Data Transfer Tool app, which used to be a Pixel exclusive, to the Play Store so that any Android phone with the app installed can take advantage of their impressive data transfer feature. But little did Google know at the time of publishing the app that it could reveal one of the prominent features about the yet-to-launch Pixel 2 and Pixel XL 2.

The app shows a smartphone, which in fact echoes the recently leaked Pixel 2 renders, featuring a front-facing speaker. Now we are not denying the fact that last leak has not hinted at the said feature, but it’s worth noting that the new information is significant as it is coming directly from the horse’s mouth. Well, almost!

Previously leaked photos, courtesy of Onleaks, have suggested that the new devices will have a curved screen and a glass back. However, there’s apparently one feature missing – Google will possibly follow the footsteps of Apple and ditch the ‘traditional’ headphone jack for the new devices. If that turns out to be true, it could be a bummer for the audiophiles with very expensive wired earphones.

This is an alleged live picture showing the Pixel 2 and Pixel XL 2.

As for specs, the Pixel 2 will feature a 4.97-inch screen with a display resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels, while the Pixel XL 2 should sport a larger 5.99-inch QuadHD display. Besides that, both these phones will house a Snapdragon 835 processor, 4GB of RAM, and run Android 8.0 Oreo out of the box.

Abhin’s love for all things tech started when he got his first smartphone, Galaxy S (the first), in 2010. Since then, he has been crazy about technology and tried out all major Android flagships from Samsung, and HTC. He currently uses a Google Pixel 4a as his daily driver.
