Chipset maker MediaTek yesterday announced a new addition to their Helio G mid-range series in the form of Helio G200. As the name suggests, the new chipset is the successor to the Helio G100 that launched in August last year, which powers budget-friendly phones such as Tecno Camon 30S, Tecno Spark 30 Pro, and Infinix Hot 50 4G.

Helio G200 vs G100: What is the difference?

The new Helio G200 shares a lot in common with last year’s G100, with both based on TSMC 6nm architecture. Echoing its predecessor, the new octa-core CPU consists of the same combination of two Cortex-A76 cores clocked at 2.2GHz and six Cortex-A55 cores clocked at 2.0GHz along with a Mali-G57 MC2 GPU clocked at 1.1GHz.

The similarities don’t end there — both chipsets support LPDDR4X RAM at a maximum frequency of 4266Mbps, UFS 2.2 storage, dual 4G SIMs with VoLTE and ViLTE, Wi-Fi 5, Bluetooth 5.2, 200MP single cameras / 16MP dual cameras, and Full HD+ 120Hz displays.

So, what sets apart the G200 from the G100? Well, the new Helio G200 model comes with 4G DC SAR technology to improve connectivity in remote areas and regions with weak cellular signals, which makes sense considering the target market of phones to feature this chipset. It also adds 12-bit DCG (dual conversion gain) support for HDR video recordings.

Helio G200 Performance and Power Upgrades

MediaTek claims that their new Helio G200 processor is designed with exceptional gaming and battery life in mind, revealing the performance advantage of the chip over its competition as follows:

    • 35% faster Antutu performance
    • 40% better single core performance on GeekBench
    • 20% better multi core performance on GeekBench
    • 50% faster social apps launch speed
    • 75% faster GPU performance
    • Up to 30% more power-efficient in games
