Nokia that ruled the mobile industry for years and became a household name with a domineering market presence had to shut shop in 2014 after selling its business to Microsoft, following a string of failed smartphones and internal struggles. Nokia’s brand of phones re-emerged in the market earlier this year under the aegis of the Finnish company, HMD Global. Installation numbers for Nokia Mobile Support app on the Google Play Store suggest that the brand name still evokes a sense of credibility among users.

The recently released figures suggest that the installation number for Nokia-brand smartphones are between one and five million. Achieving these numbers in less than a year of its revival speaks volume about the iconic image of Nokia’s brand of phones. Commenting on the installation number, a report in NokiaPowerUser stated, “This certainly confirms that over a million Nokia Android smartphones are active in the market and this doesn’t include Nokia 6 from markets like China where Play Store is not officially accessible.”

Hinting at the soaring sales even before the numbers were released, HMD Global’s CMO Pekka Rantala had said in an earlier interview that the company had already sold over a million Nokia-brand Android smartphones. The Nokia 3, Nokia 5, and Nokia 6 that were officially released earlier this year have seen good traction in key markets such as India, the UK as well as other European markets.

The company has the rights to manufacture, market, and sell Android smartphones under the Nokia brand for the next 10 years. After a successful run of its three smartphones, HMD Global recently unveiled the flagship Nokia 8 smartphone that sports a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 chipset and other enticing features that includes ‘dual-sight’ video, Livestream feature for selfies, split-screen visual view for both videos and still photos.
