Rooting the Samsung Galaxy S8/S8 Plus
It’s been a few months since Samsung released their Galaxy S8 and S8+ 2017 flagship variants in April, and Samsung had reportedly shipped an impressive more than 20 Million units within the following 3 months.
Both the S8 and S8 Plus are either powered by Exynos or Snapdragon with the Snapdragon 835 being the dominant especially for the North American and European models.
Now, while many users may be satisfied by S8’s potential right off the shelves, we figured we’d provide a tutorial to those enthusiastic about always having their Android smartphone rooted and living up to its full potential.
This rooting tutorial will cover only for the Snapdragon variant.
To start us off, we’ll provide the list of all Snapdragon 835 variants of both the Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus

NB: Always make sure to download the correct autoroot tar.md5 file for your specific model number.
Here’s how to root Galaxy S8 Snapdragon 835
1 Download the latest version of Odin.
2 Extract the cf-auto root file to a new folder on your desktop (find download links above for your exact model).
3 Reboot your Galaxy S8/S8 Plus into download mode – if unsure, follow this procedure:
- Power off your phone.
- Press and hold down Volume Down+Home+Power buttons simultaneously till you see a warning on the screen.
- Finally, press the Volume Up to continue.
4. Connect your GS8/Plus to PC using the USB cable.
5. Run Odin3 – don’t mess with the default settings.
6. Click the AP/PDA button and choose the CF-auto root kernel file and hit START to flash the kernel.
7. When it completes, Odin will show you the PASS!! Message in Odin and your phone should reboot automatically.
8. After your phone boots up, check to make sure that SuperSU app is installed.
To confirm that your Galaxy S8/Plus has been rooted correctly, you can verify the root access using the free “Root Checker app“ from the Play Store.
