Instagram have had to face a lot of backlashes previously for deleting user accounts without providing prior notice and valid reasons. But, it looks like that is about to change thanks to a new update in the policies followed by the company. The company has released a new press statement stating that they will now let the users know beforehand if their accounts are about to get banned, along with the rationale behind the ban displayed via a notification.
Instagram will send out in-app notifications warning the users about a potential ban if their post or comment goes against the community guidelines laid out by the company on harassment, bullying, hate speech, nudity, pornography, drug sales, and terrorism. The new update to the policies will also let the users appeal for the restoration of deleted content or banned account from within the app instead of going to the Help Center option on desktop. Inspired from the policies of the parent company Facebook, Instagram also confirmed that they will now delete accounts based on the number of violating content posted by a user in addition to their already existing policy of deleting accounts based on the percentage of violating content.
