It’s almost clear for now that Apple will unveil their new iPhones at the press event on September 12. But, what will their Anniversary-edition iPhone be called?
Several rumors have widely tipped that Apple will be launching three new iPhones this year. While two of them will be a slightly incremental upgrade over the previous generation iPhones, the third is almost confirmed to feature a brand new design. Although we seem to know pretty much everything about these devices, their names are still a mystery so far. While most rumors settle on the ‘iPhone 8’ moniker, recent ones are coming up with names such as the iPhone Edition, iPhone Pro – and now – iPhone X. Well, it’s getting complicated!
Is it the iPhone X, where the “X” stands for 10?
iPhone X sounds like the best bet if you ask me. It will definitely help the new iPhone to differentiate from the ‘normal’ ones, and highlight Apple’s glorious 10 years of leading the smartphone industry.
Earlier today, we received a leak from popular technology website LetsGoDigital suggesting the device would likely go by the name iPhone X. Speaking of which, the website claims to have received a leaked picture of the retail box of the device from popular telecom operator KPN.
The bright white colored box shows off the front design of the iPhone, which pretty much echoes with the previously leaked images, on the top with the “iPhone X” printed in big on the front-facing side. I’ve embedded the picture below in case you wanna take a look.
Perhaps, it could be called the iPhone 8 as per most rumors.
I personally don’t think Apple would settle on their typical naming strategy for the anniversary iPhone. It’s going to be the most advanced and, nevertheless, the most expensive iPhone ever released by Apple. But, that doesn’t mean there won’t be an iPhone 8 launching this fall. In fact, the successors to the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus models could be called the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus instead of iPhone 7S and iPhone 7S Plus respectively. This year is special for Apple, so the firm could likely deviate from its usual habitude, although they are widely known to be a creature of habits.
However, Evan Blass, who has a great track record when it comes to smartphone leaks, suggests otherwise. He points to a couple of “final retail packages for OLED iPhone cases from two separate, independent case makers” for letting us know the OLED-iPhone might indeed retain the much-rumored iPhone 8 moniker.
