Sony has started rolling out security patch updates for the month of July to their 2017 flagship smartphones including Xperia XZ1, XZ1 Compact, and XZ Premium.

The new update weighs 279MB and bumps the firmware build version to 47.1.A.12.235. As usual, however, Sony don’t have a changelog of the update for us, but a reader who installed the update told us that it doesn’t bring any new feature on board.

The update is rolling out over-the-air (OTA), so it may take a while before it becomes available on your device. It goes without saying, but make sure you have at least 50% charge on your smartphone before installing the update.

Nevertheless, it is always a good idea to backup all your important files and apps before updating your device.

Launched back in September last year, the Xperia XZ1 features a 5.2-inch Full HD display, Snapdragon 835 chipset, 4 gigs of RAM, 64GB of onboard storage, 19MP rear shooter, 13MP front-facing snapper, and a 2700mAh battery. The XZ1 Compact, as the name suggests, is the compact variant of the XZ1 and echoes the same specs for the most part, except that the former only has a 4.6-inch HD display,  32 gigs of storage, and 8MP front camera.

The XZ Premium, on the other hand, features a 5.46-inch 4K display, Snapdragon 835 chipset, 4GB RAM, 64GB of storage, 19MP rear camera, 13MP front-facing camera, and a 3230mAh battery.

Abhin’s love for all things tech started when he got his first smartphone, Galaxy S (the first), in 2010. Since then, he has been crazy about technology and tried out all major Android flagships from Samsung, and HTC. He currently uses a Google Pixel 4a as his daily driver.
