LG G7 is expected to come with an advanced iris scanner. If true, the G7 will mark the first LG phone to come with such a feature.

Iris scanners are not new to the Android smartphone world. In fact, the Samsung flagships have had the feature for a long time now, however, it wasn’t as secure as the FaceID on the iPhone X and could be easily tricked even with a photo.

If reports are to be believed, LG’s first 2018 flagship phone — LG G7 — might come with an advanced iris scanner technology. And unlike the iris scanner on the Samsung Galaxy phones, this one cannot be tricked by a photo.

LG’s new iris scanner patent, first spotted by LetsGoDigital, does reveal some of the key details about the upcoming feature. To make sure the feature works pretty much anytime throughout day and night, the sensor adjusts the reading based on the ambient light that goes into it. This will ensure that the feature works regardless of the variations in your pupil size.

According to TechRadar, the LG G7 may ask you to follow a series of dots with your eyes to make sure it is not tricked by a simple picture. Thus, LG may likely use the feature for authenticating mobile payments as well, besides just unlocking the device.

Abhin’s love for all things tech started when he got his first smartphone, Galaxy S (the first), in 2010. Since then, he has been crazy about technology and tried out all major Android flagships from Samsung, and HTC. He currently uses a Google Pixel 4a as his daily driver.
