LG has announced the latest addition to their Q-series lineup, LG Q7. Here is everything you need to know about the difference between the new LG Q7 and its predecessor, Q6.
Following months of leaks and rumors, LG has finally launched one of the most anticipated phones of the year, LG Q7. It is the watered-down variant of the South Korean giant’s flagship phone, LG G7 ThinQ, and marks the successor to last year’s midrange phone LG Q6.
Just like last year, the firm has launched three variants of the same model — LG Q7, Q7+, and Q7α (Q7 Alpha). All the three variants feature almost similar specifications, except for the in-built storage and megapixel count.
The high-end variant among the three, LG Q7+, comes with 4GB of RAM, 64GB of storage, and a 16MP shooter on the rear. Meanwhile, the other two variants — Q7 and Q7α features a 13MP rear camera, 3GB of RAM, and 32GB of onboard storage.
LG Q7 vs LG Q6: What’s the Difference?
LG Q7 is only an incremental upgrade over the Q6 and does not bring anything avant-garde to the table. However, there are some teeny improvements here and there that sets the former apart from the latter.
Both the Q7 and the Q6 packs the same 18:9 Full Vision 5.5-inch screen with a display resolution of 1080×2160 pixels. Both the models feature the same battery capacity — 3000mAh — as well.
In 2017, LG launched the Q6 in three variants, with the low-end variant, Q6α, featuring only 2 gigs of RAM. However, this time around, the South Korean heavyweight irrevocably ditched the 2GB variant and went ahead with 3GB and 4GB RAM size.
In terms of design, both the phones look very much alike, although the new model features a higher screen-to-body ratio than its predecessor. The LG Q7 boasts a screen-to-body ratio of 78.3% while the Q6 has a slightly lower ratio at 78%. This essentially means that bezels on the new handset are faintly thinner than the older device.
Though both Q6 and Q7 come with an all-plastic body, they assure military-grade durability with MIL-STD 810G certification and are both IP68 water and dust resistant as well.
The new model, however, is slightly thicker than its forerunner (8.1mm vs 8.4mm).
Additionally, there are a few changes to the camera hardware as well. While all the Q6 variants featured a 13MP rear shooter, the new Q7+ comes with an upgraded 16MP sensor on the rear. The other two variants, Q7 and Q7α, have retained the old 13MP sensor, however.
There are improvements to the front-facing camera as well. Both the Q7+ and standard Q7 has an 8MP sensor on the front, which is quite an upgrade over the 5MP on the Q6. The Q7 Alpha retains the 5MP selfie camera.
The LG Q6 was powered by 1.4GHz octa-core Snapdragon 435 processor. The standard Q7 and the Q7 Alpha are powered by a 1.5GHz octa-core processor, while the Plus variant is powered by an octa-core processor with each core clocked at 1.8GHz.
Besides, the new Q7 devices come with several audio enhancements in the form of Hi-Fi quality audio and DTS:X 3D Surround Sound support through the 3.5mm headphone jack.
LG Q7 vs LG Q6: Pricing
The LG Q6 (32GB) is currently selling for $189.99 on Amazon following a nice 32% off on the original price.
On the other hand, LG has yet to reveal the pricing and a release date for the new range of smartphones. The starting price of LG Q7 is expected to be somewhere around $250 (Rs. 17,000).
