You can now pre-order Nokia’s entry-level handset – Nokia 2

After the launch of Nokia 2 in Russia and Africa, HMD Global Oy has finally initiated the process of introducing its budget Android flagship in the US. The Nokia 2 pre-order has gone live on B&H, Amazon, and Best Buy for as low as $99. Nokia 2 is compatible with almost all leading GSM networks, including T-Mobile and AT&T.

The device may be an entry-level smartphone but it has been designed to mimic a premium flagship, sporting a slick aluminum frame that offers greater stability to the structure and a solid back panel made of a polycarbonate-based shell. The USP of the Nokia 2, however, is its long battery life.

Packed with a colossal 4,100mAh battery, the Nokia 2 can accord two days of run time with mixed use. The front of the phone is fitted with a 5-inch HD LCD IPS screen with 1280×720 pixel resolution and power consumption LTPS technology, sealed with a Gorilla Glass 3 shield.

This latest offering from Nokia is powered by a 1.3 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 212 quad-core processor and Adreno 308 graphics engine. The introductory pieces run on Android 7.1.1, Nougat, with an Oreo update in the offing.

This is in line with HMD Global’s announcement soon after the Android Oreo was announced by Google that all Nokia devices would be upgraded to the latest version of the Android operating system once it was rolled out.

The company has been sending out reminders about its promise to deliver latest Android feature and security updates to its users during every crucial launch event. HMD Global has already announced that Nokia 3,5, and 6 handsets will receive an Android Oreo update by end of the year, and Nokia 2 is expected to be no different.

What’s unique about the company’s policy vis-à-vis operating system updates is that, unlike other market players who make these updates available for flagship devices alone, it is planning to roll out the Oreo update to devices across all price points. How the Android update plays out for this new entrant remains to be seen.

Right out of the Nokia 2 pre-order, users can expect 1GB RAM and 8GB (expandable) internal storage, an 8MP standard rear camera with LED flash and autofocus, and a 5MP front camera with fixed focus. Other key specifications of the device include a contrast ratio of 1:1300, a pixel density of 294 pixels per inch.

The smartphone is 4G LTE network compatible, with an additional dual-SIM option. The Nokia 2 is also compatible with the Google Assistant. In terms of connectivity, the handset sports microUSB v2.0, Bluetooth v4.1, 3.5mm audio jack, WiFi, FM radio, A-GPS/GLONASS.

It also comes with IP52 drip protection certification. It is a sleek device measuring 143.5×71.3×9.30 mm and is available in black, white and copper color variants.

For a measly $99 price tag, the Nokia 2 looks like a promising device with all basic modern features. Of course, it is no iPhone X in terms of cutting-edge functionality and design, but then it also costs a tenth of Apple’s flagship phone. This latest offering definitely has the potential to emerge as a frontrunner in its own category and you can now pre-order the Nokia 2 today.
