Not impressed by the recently launched Nokia 8? Well then, take a look at the rumors surrounding the next flagship from Nokia – Nokia 9.
Sure, Nokia 8 is the BEST Android smartphone released by HMD Global so far. It has all the bells and whistles of every high-end flagship devices in the market, including the best mobile processor and 4GB of RAM. But still, there’s something missing on the latest Nokia flagship which makes it less impressive than its rivals. Most importantly, it lacks an industrial design, which we have seen in plenty of flagships released this year. However, fortunately enough, that’s going to change with the Nokia 9, which will come with a new radical design.
Even before the announcement of Nokia 8, we’ve been hearing a lot of good stuff about the Nokia 9. In fact, we’ve heard more rumors about the Nokia 9 than what we’ve collectively discovered about the former before its launch last month. Going by the rumors, Nokia 9 is shaping up to be a serious competitor to premium devices from industry leaders such as Samsung, LG, and Google.
As you can see in the leaked schematics (courtesy of NokiaPowerUser), the new Nokia 9 will feature an all-screen front design. And that means there will be fewer bezels up front with most of the space reserved for the screen. Yeah, we are talking about a design similar to the Galaxy S8.
Similar to Nokia 8, the Nokia 9 will also feature a metal unibody design with metal edges. If rumors are anything to go by, it should be available in four different color variants including Black, Polished Blue, Steel, and Polished Copper.
Besides that, an HMD exec has already confirmed it to have a larger display than the Nokia 8. Well, it’s only slightly larger at 5.5-inch — a 0.2-inch bigger than the current flagship. As for the other specs, it is said to be powered by Qualcomm’s flagship chipset, Snapdragon 835. Apart from that, an FCC listing has already revealed that the device will be available in two storage variants: 4GB RAM/64GB storage and 6GB RAM/128GB storage.
It’ll surely sport a dual camera setup on the rear with Carl Zeiss lens, although no details regarding the camera sensors are known as of now. Nokia, just like Samsung, has not yet mastered the tech to place the fingerprint sensor under the display, so we’ll have to deal with a rear-mounted sensor on the next Nokia device.
A source close to the Finnish company has told us that, Nokia has no plans to release any new device this year. So, we’ll have to wait at least until the beginning of next year to see what the company has in store for us. As HMD Global has a great track record for competitive pricing on their handsets, we expect the Nokia 9 to be priced around $650 in most markets to give its rivals a good run for their money.
Update 14/09: Nokia 9 spotted on GFXBench running the latest Android v8.0 Oreo:
Well, the new GFXBench listing confirms what we’ve already known thanks to past leaks and rumors. Namely, Nokia’s next big flagship will come with a 5.3-inch Quad-HD display, the Snapdragon 835 processor under the helm, 4GB RAM, 64GB storage, dual-12MP rear camera, a 12MP front-facing camera, and run Android 8.0 Oreo out of the box.
Besides, we also expect to see a higher storage variant sporting 6GB RAM and 128GB storage.
Update 6/09: A new Nokia 9 concept video created by Concept Creator provides us with an impressive eye-catching look at how the phone’s near bezel-free design might actually look and feel. The video is totally worth watching if you ask me.
