OnePlus fans in Australia can finally get their hands-on the latest affordable flagship handset – OnePlus 5.
Since its launch in June this year, the OnePlus 5 has been receiving mostly positive reviews from smartphone buyers and critics alike; thanks to its high-end specs and relatively lower price point. It has already become the HIGHEST revenue-grossing smartphone on Amazon India, that too, within a week of its launch. And now, the smartphone has officially entered the Australian markets to try and conquer their affordable flagship range.
Well, of course, you can’t purchase the phone from any brick-and-mortar store in Australia, at least for now. It’s available for purchase only via the company’s official website. And as for the pricing, the 6GB/64GB variant will set you back AU$599 ($473), while the 8GB/128GB version of the device is priced at AU$699 ($552).
To expand its community over to Australia, the company has plans to hold meetups across the country sometime this month. OnePlus also added that they would send their officials at the meetings in an attempt to gather feedback from the customers in regards to their OnePlus smartphone.
As a promo offer, the company is offering a FREE Sandstone Protective Case with every purchase of the OnePlus 5. While the deal indeed sounds pretty attractive, it’s worth noting that it is good only for now. So, you better hurry up if you’re looking to purchase the device anytime soon!
The main selling point of the device, besides its obviously cheaper pricing, is the dual camera setup on the rear. The setup is similar to what we’ve seen on the iPhone 7 Plus. The setup comprises a main 16MP Sony IMX398 sensor with a pixel size of 1.12um, sporting an aperture of f/1.7, and a secondary 20MP Sony IMX350 sensor with a pixel size of 1um and f/2.6 aperture. The latter acts as the telephoto lens for the rear camera.
The other selling point is, of course, the addition of all top-of-the-line hardware specs. Speaking of, it houses the best chipset from Qualcomm – Snapdragon 835 – and is available in two storage configurations: 6GB RAM/64GB storage and 8GB RAM/128GB storage. The device is backed by a 3,300 mAh battery which supports OnePlus’ proprietary fast charging technology – Dash Charging – fetches you a full day’s charge in just 30 minutes.
Update: According to Ausdroid, the smartphone went out of stock within a week in Australia after it became available for purchase on OnePlus’ website. The Chinese tech firm hadn’t expected this response from the Aussies but clarifies that this could be because the device was available only via one platform. Notably, the 6GB RAM variant in Slate Gray and Soft Gold colors, and the 8GB RAM variant in Black hue were the best selling OP 5 variants in Australia.
