Everything you need to know about the upcoming OnePlus 5T.

Update: OnePlus has finally launched the much-awaited successor to OnePlus 5T, which was launched back in November 2017. The new handset, OnePlus 6, comes with a bezel-less notched design along with high-end hardware specs we’ve come to expect from a flagship of 2018.

Embrace OnePlus fans, the next generation OnePlus flagship device – OnePlus 5T – is on its way! OnePlus 5, the company’s recently released handset, already turned out to be massive in terms of sales. In fact, it had already become the highest revenue-grossing phone on Amazon India, that too, only within a week after launch. Sure the phone packs all the great stuff to compete against popular flagships of the likes of Galaxy S8. However, there were a pretty good number of significant features missing in it, which made it sub-par with its rivals. Speaking of which, the OnePlus 5 lacked what was clearly the biggest trend in the market – an all-screen front design. Instead, it sported an old-school design with huge bezels hanging around the display. It also lacked IP certification making it the WORST choice available for an athletic person. But yes, apart from these two significant cons, the handset is pretty nice for day-to-day use, and I’ve personally been liking it ever since I purchased one about two months ago.

That aside, if rumors are true, OnePlus is launching a revamped version of the OnePlus 5 later this year. A source close to the manufacturer has told us that the new forthcoming handset will indeed feature an IP68 water and dust protection, although it won’t boast a ground-up redesign. Fair enough, OnePlus!

The upcoming OnePlus 5T’s design should be reminiscent of that of the OnePlus 5.

The tipster also mentioned that the new flagship from the Chinese company will feature next-gen Qualcomm chipset – Snapdragon 836 – onboard. And, that’s very likely to happen considering the fact that OnePlus never settles for anything less than the high-end specs. Besides, he also told that the handset will be available in two storage variants: 6/64GB and 8/128GB like the OnePlus 5.

The recently released OnePlus 5 is the company’s most expensive device so far. But, that’s definitely going to change once the company unveils the 5T, which is rumored to be even more expensive. As per latest rumors, the base variant of OnePlus 5T will set you back $550, which is easy $70 more than what OnePlus 5 costs.

Update 15/09: A few days after publishing this article, a source, claiming to know of the plans of the Chinese tech firm, contacted us. The tattler told us that the OnePlus 5T will indeed feature Snapdragon 836 chipset under the hood, but won’t debut in the markets until the beginning of next year. If that is to be believed, our best bet is that the firm would launch the handset sometime in January or February next year.

So, what do you think about the forthcoming OnePlus device? If the rumored specs turn out to be true, do you think the 5T would be a worthy upgrade over the OP 5? Share your thoughts in the commenting section below.

Abhin’s love for all things tech started when he got his first smartphone, Galaxy S (the first), in 2010. Since then, he has been crazy about technology and tried out all major Android flagships from Samsung, and HTC. He currently uses a Google Pixel 4a as his daily driver.

    Not the features we (or at least I) am looking for on the upgrade. The Oneplus 5 is missing these important features that are on the HTC u11:

    * USB 3.0 Type-C connection (the 5’s type-C is only USB 2.0)
    * Noise Cancellation built-in for headphone jack/ear buds
    * Optical Image Stabilization (OIS) on the camera
    * Fix the upside down screen to eliminate the jelly effect issue
    * MicroSD expansion (instead of dual SIM chip)

    * More powerful battery, and perhaps
    * Slightly thicker design to accommodate said battery
    * Stereo speakers
    * Quad resolution display

    The top 5 items should be fairly easy to implement, while the bottom 4 should probably be expected on the Oneplus 6 next year.
