PUBG 2 is the upcoming sequel to popular battle royale shooter video game PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, better known as PUBG. The first installment quickly became one of the hottest games in the battle royale genre since its 2017 launch and continues to attract millions of players spanning across different gaming platforms and across the world. The game was created by Brendan “PlayerUnknown” Greene and PUBG Studios and published by Krafton, and it is available across multiple platforms including Android, iOS, Windows, Xbox, and PlayStation. Fast forward six years after launch, we’ve been hearing a lot of rumours about a potential successor and here’s the story thus far regarding PUBG 2’s release date.
Possible PUBG: Battlegrounds 2 Storyline
It is safe to assume that PUBG 2 will follow its predecessor, including its gameplay style, but it’s unclear what other new features the sequel will bring. Speculations suggest that PUBG: Battlegrounds 2 may come with exciting new maps, more customization options, and the introduction of a third-person perspective. We could also expect to see improved gameplay with fewer bugs and more in-game events to keep players entertained.
Is PUBG 2 Confirmed?
While there has been no official confirmation from Krafton regarding PUBG 2, a popular leaker who goes by the name PlayerIGN has revealed multiple details about the game in 2021. One, a job listing for Technical Art Director at PUBG Amsterdam for an unannounced AAA project. The other being that PUBG Battlegrounds 2 will be built with Unreal Engine 5 as opposed to UE4 in the first iteration.
Is PUBG 2 Cancelled?
There have been no reports suggesting PUBG 2 being cancelled, and so fans can remain hopeful. After all, the game has generated a total revenue of $9 billion on mobile version alone and has sold more than 75 million copies on PCs and gaming consoles such as PlayStation and Xbox.
PUBG 2 Release Date Details
With the nature of the game expected to be not too different, we could expect to see a ton of assets being reused from the previous version and other similar games from Krafton, which is going to significantly save a lot of dev time. Taking this into consideration and also assuming the game has been in development for two years now, we could expect to see PUBG 2 hit the shelves sometime in late 2023 or early 2024.
