When it comes to bang for your buck, it’s pretty obvious the Redmi Note 4 has no other alternatives. The mid-tier smartphone, available for just around $170, packs decent hardware and software to take care of your daily needs. And thankfully, the Chinese firm Xiaomi has been pretty consistent when it comes to software updates for the device. Speaking of which, we expect the manufacturer to roll out the latest Android Nougat build to the Note 4 in a matter of days.
However, if waiting is not your thing, we may have found a solution for you. Xiaomi has just launched a developer version of the Android Nougat OS with MIUI 9.0 for the said smartphone. Unfortunately, we can’t promise the build won’t have any bugs, as it’s not the final version yet. Nevertheless, if you are opting to download and try it, you’ll have to do at your own risk.
Currently, there are two ROMS available to download for the Redmi Note 4 device. The first one, dubbed Stable ROM, carrying a version name V8.2.10.0.MAMMIEA is the Android Marshmallow based on MIUI 8. But, the second one – Developer ROM – is the latest Android Nougat build with MIUI 9 on board. The latter is what you should download to upgrade the current Android Marshmallow OS on your smartphone to the latest Android Nougat OS.
While in case you are flashing the Developer ROM, make sure to follow the instructions properly as stated on the website. Xiaomi recommends you to wipe all data in recovery mode if you want to update to a “discontinuous ROM version”. Nonetheless, if you are upgrading from the Stable build to the latest Developer build, you’ll have to flash via Fastboot update.
How to flash Android Nougat ROM on Redmi Note 4?
Well, it’s pretty easy if you ask me! Just follow these steps and you’ll have your device running the latest Android N operating system.
- Download the ROM here. It will take around 1.4GB size of your disk, so make sure you’re connected to WiFi before downloading the file.
- After successfully downloading the ROM, connect your device to a PC or laptop, and transfer the downloaded file on to the “download_rom” folder on your phone.
- Now launch “Updater” app on your device -> Click update package -> Select the ROM you want to flash.
- After choosing the ROM, the installation process should start automatically. Once that is complete, your device will reboot running the Android Nougat OS.
