Sony’s smartphone business may be failing, but it is clearly not ready to compromise on the standards of its handsets. The unparalleled design and build quality of Xperia phones have once again been honored by the iF Design Award. It’s obviously not a first for Sony smartphones, handsets including Xperia XZ1 and Xperia XZ3 have received iF Design Awards in the past. This time, it is the 2019 flagship handset, Xperia 1 that has received the award.

Besides Sony Xperia 1, other winners of 2020 iF Design Award include Xiaomi MIX Alpha, Redmi K20 Pro, Pixel 3a/3a XL, Galaxy M series, Galaxy Note 10/10+, Meizu Zero, Mi 9, Mi 9 SE, Mi 9 Transparent Edition, Motorola One vision, One Action, One Zoom, OnePlus 7T/ 7 Pro, Blackshark 2 Pro, and Asus Zenfone 6 Pro.

The leaked renders of the upcoming Sony flagship Xperia 1.1 reveal that Sony will retain the current design trend for another year, although the bezels could likely be a bit narrower in the new phones. The new handsets are said to launch at the MWC press event scheduled on Feb 24 in Barcelona. At least three Xperia handsets are expected to go official at the event, with two of them being flagship devices while the other rumored to be a mid-ranger.

All three phones are said to support 5G connectivity and run Android 10 OS out of the box.
