Sony’s mobile business has been on the decline for quite a few years now — reporting a 40% drop in sales in 2023, but fortunately for Xperia fans, the Japanese tech giant is not ready to give up and has announced a May 15 launch for the 2015 Xperia flagship phone. With only five more days to go until Sony announces the much-awaited Xperia 1 VII, a massive new leak just revealed the design, color variants, and features of the upcoming device.
Folks over at Android Headlines have shared a total of 39 images consisting of the official renders and marketing materials revealing the forthcoming Sony Xperia 1 Mark VII in all its glory. Per the images, the 2025 top Xperia phone will be available in three color variants — Black, Green, and Purple. Its predecessor Xperia 1 VI, meanwhile, launched in Black, Silver, and Green colors during the launch, with a red color variant later added to the mix.
In terms of design, it appears that Sony is going to stick with its good ol’ boxy frame with considerable bezels at the top and bottom, with the right side housing three buttons including volume up/down, power button that also doubles as fingerprint scanner, and a camera shutter button. There is a vertically-aligned triple camera setup on the rear, similar to what we’ve seen over the years in Xperia 1 models.
Among the top highlights, according to the marketing materials, of the device include ZEISS T* coating on the camera lens, audio jack, BRAVIA-powered display, 5000mAh battery, camera lock focus feature, better low-light photography, enhanced macro photos, improved stereo speakers, LDAC and DSEE Ultimate support, and four years of Android OS updates. Recapping from a previous leak, the Xperia 1 VII will come with a 6.5-inch 4K OLED display with 120Hz refresh rate, Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset, a 12MP selfie camera, a triple rear camera array housing 48MP primary sensor, 12MP ultrawide sensor and 12MP telephoto sensor, and two storage/RAM configuration — 12GB RAM/256GB storage and 16GB RAM/512GB storage.
