Let’s take a quick look at everything we know so far about the upcoming Sony Xperia 10 III.
Sony Xperia 10 III is an upcoming budget Android phone from Sony’s Xperia brand, which will launch alongside Xperia 1 III and Xperia 5 III sometime in 2021. While we won’t get to see the smartphone until early next year, we do have some pre-launch information that we thought would be interesting to share.
For the uninitiated, the Xperia 10 III is the successor to the company’s 2020 mid-range phone Xperia 10 II. For nearly $400, the handset offers good value for money, but unlike its flagship counterparts Xperia 1 II and Xperia 5 II, this one doesn’t have 5G support. However, that’s about to change with the launch of the third-generation Xperia 10 model, which will mark Sony’s entry into the budget-friendly 5G handset market.
And now, without further ado, let’s dig into everything we know thus far about the incoming Xperia 10 Mark III.
Sony Xperia 10 III Specs
We already know quite a bit about the specs of the upcoming Xperia 10 Mark III smartphone, thanks to a chunk of code discovered by Nodar Sikharulidze (Via GSMArena).
The code reveals information about two upcoming smartphones from Sony — one featuring a Snapdragon 875 chipset and the other with a Snapdragon 690 chipset.
The former is likely either of Sony’s next-generation flagship models, Xperia 1 III or Xperia 5 III. The latter is most definitely the inexpensive Xperia 10 III smartphone.
With a Snapdragon 690 at the helm, the smartphone should be capable of connecting to sub-6 5G networks.
With Sony gradually ending support for its mobile apps and replacing them with Google counterparts in newer Xperia releases, it is clear that the Xperia 10 III also won’t come with the Sony Album app pre-installed.
Here’s a quick rundown of the specs of the Xperia 10 Mark III smartphone:
- 6.0-inch FullHD+ OLED display
- Octa-core Snapdragon 690 chipset
- 6GB RAM, 128GB storage
- Sub-6 5G connectivity
- Side-mounted fingerprint sensor
- IP65/68 water and dust resistance
- Android 11 OS
Sony Xperia 10 III Release Date
If Sony follows its usual launch pattern, the Xperia 10 III could launch sometime in February 2021.
Following the launch, Sony smartphones usually take a while before it is available for consumers. So, expect the release date to be somewhere in May 2021.
Sony Xperia 10 III Pricing
The original Xperia 10 smartphone featured a launch price of $349 (though now it is only $300), while its 2020 successor costs about $400.
In terms of pricing, the Sony Xperia 10 III could set you back about $400 in the US and about £294 in the UK.
Wondering how much the Xperia 10 Mark 3 would cost in India? Well, that roughly translates to Rs. 29,370, but it is worth noting that the phone won’t be available in the Indian markets.
Conclusion
From ditching the release of 4G-powered Xperia 10 II Plus to its plan to use inexpensive 5G chipsets, it is clear that Sony wants its share of the affordable 5G smartphone market.
And the launch of Sony Xperia 10 III will mark the firm’s foray into this growing segment, which will soon be flooded with handsets from brands like Samsung, OPPO, and Xiaomi.
It sure will be interesting to see how Sony’s offering keeps up with the competition.
