Sony Xperia as a brand may not be working out very well for the Japanese tech giant in terms of sales and profits right now, but that didn’t stop Sony from releasing a killer flagship phone in the form of Xperia 5 at a relatively reasonable price point.

In addition to garnering positive responses from both critics and hardcore fans, the phone has also managed to bag a bunch of ‘Best’ awards from popular technology websites including T3, Stuff, and Android Headlines.

T3 has given away its ‘Best Phone’ title to the Xperia 5 for its gorgeous 6.1-inch 21:9 OLED display. The site writes, “The 21:9 display is truly cinematic, and Sony’s OLED expertise makes it a showcase for detail and HDR’s rich colors. It’s brilliant for games, and for web browsing – you can see a lot at once on a screen that tall.”

The handset also bagged a ‘Best in Show’ award from popular gadget news and reviews website Stuff. Stuff says, “We adore the Xperia 1 flagship phone for having the audacity to be different with an ultra-wide 21:9 display. The compact Xperia 5 doesn’t carry over the same 4K HDR OLED display, but the elongated dimensions remain as does pretty much all of the top-spec innards.”

Finally, we have the one from Android Headlines, yet another really popular tech news website. Sony’s new ‘compact’ phone made it to AH’s list of Best of IFA 2019 with Editor Kristijan Lucic praising the device if its beautiful design, narrow form factor, impressive camera setup, and powerful internals. He writes, “The Xperia 5 is not that small, but compared to the Xperia 1. It’s also quite compact compared to almost any other Android flagship. This handset features the same display aspect ratio as its sibling, 21:9, to be exact. That actually helps this phone feel even more compact, in a way, as it’s narrower. Truth be said, it’s a bit taller than you’d think due to that display aspect ratio, but it’s quite usable”.

“The Xperia 5 combines glass and metal to make a really nice-looking body, which is understated and beautiful at the same time.”
