Sony Xperia XZ1 Compact problems and their corresponding fix

  • Xperia XZ1 Compact freezes/restarts

While I was on the SonyMobile forum, I happened to come across a thread started by an XZ1 Compact owner. The person says that his device freezes and restarts very often while doing simple tasks like using Whatsapp or making a call. This could become a potentially troublesome issue as apps like Whatsapp are used very often by every one of us.

Soon after starting the thread, an Xperia XZ1 user reported that their device faces a similar issue when trying to use the built-in camera app. According to the user, the handset restarts automatically on opening the default camera application.

How to fix the Xperia XZ1 restarting issue? Well, the fix is fairly simple, if I am to say! And before implementing the fix, we suggest you do a complete backup of all your important files, for obvious reasons. Plus, make sure you have a working internet connection before starting the process.

To fix this Xperia XZ1 Compact issue, you’ll need to download an application called “Xperia Companion” on your Mac/Windows PC. After installing Xperia Competition, open the application and click on Software Repair.

Click on the Software repair button and follow the on-screen instructions.

Now, proceed forward as per the instructions on the screen. Once the process is complete, the issues causing your XZ1 Compact to restart should be fixed.

  • Xperia XZ1 Bluetooth and Wifi issues

Another issue that seems to be muddling the Xperia XZ1 Compact users across the globe is a connectivity failure. Several XZ1 Compact Users are reporting that, at times, they are not able to connect to other devices via Bluetooth and/or Wifi.

To fix the Bluetooth/Wifi issue on your XZ1 Compact device, all you have to do is clear the cache data from the recovery mode. To go to recovery mode, you have to first power off the device and then press volume up and power buttons at the same time.

  • Xperia XZ1 Compact Camera Distortion issue

Camera distortion is not new to Sony Xperia phones. In fact, the first Xperia phone of 2017 – XZ Premium – had this issue and had been there for a while. However, it’s a software issue and can be fixed via a simple software update. Speaking of, Sony has reportedly fixed the camera distortion issue on the XZ Premium through the latest Android Oreo update.

For the Xperia XZ1 and XZ1 Compact devices, the software fix will be rolling out by the end of November.

Update 21/11: Sony has already started rolling out the camera distortion fix to Xperia XZ1 and XZ1 Compact devices. The update weighs 396.2MB and comes packed with the November Android security patch, besides the distortion fix. After updating your device, visit camera settings and activate “Correction for image distortion” for the fix to do the trick.

  • Missing Smart Lock option under Security options

Following a recent software update, many Xperia XZ1 Compact users are complaining that they could not enable the Smart Lock feature as the option has gone missing under the Security option since the new update.

The Smart Lock is a security feature that lets you unlock your phone automatically in certain situations. For instance, the device unlocks itself when connected to a trusted Bluetooth device or when you’re at a certain location.

Well, the solution to bring the Smart Lock feature back to the Xperia XZ1 Compact devices is pretty simple and straightforward. All you need to do is disable the Smart Lock option under the Security settings -> Trust Agents. After that, restart your device and enable the option that was disabled then. That’s it! The Smart Lock feature on your Sony Xperia XZ1 Compact device should be up and running.

  • Smart backlight control feature not working

Are you a Sony Xperia XZ1 Compact user who has been getting the ‘smart backlight control isn’t working’ notifications? Well, if yes, then you gotta keep your worries aside as Sony has officially addressed this issue. The company has officially confirmed this to be a firmware-related issue and told Android Marvel that they will be rolling out a new firmware update anytime now.

The Smart backlight control is a smart feature in Sony Xperia handsets that keeps the screen on as long as the phone is in the user’s hand. While enabled, it also switches the screen off as the user puts aside the handset.

We’ll be updating this article as new Xperia XZ1 Compact problems surface, along with their fix.
