Sony rumored to ditch the ‘traditional’ 3.5mm headphone jack on the forthcoming Xperia XZ1.
With Apple, Motorola, and (now) Google opting to remove the headphone jack on their flagships, there is a looming question among the Xperia fans – will Sony follow suit? Well, guess we have an answer for you now!
According to a new tip, Sony is allegedly ditching the headphone jack on one of their upcoming phones – presumably Xperia XZ1. Although no official proofs supporting the claim has been provided by the tipster, he says that removing the jack would help Sony accommodate a larger battery and stereo speakers under the display. Further, it would also work in favor of an all-screen front display on the XZ1. That is, unlike the Xperia XZ Premium with ugly bezels, the new Xperia XZ1 could sport a brand new design with narrow bezels on the top and bottom.
Although that indeed sounds pretty interesting, I personally wouldn’t want Sony to do such a tragic move on their upcoming Xperia XZ1. Besides, such a design move on the XZ1 could possibly help them lose potential buyers.
According to previous rumors, Sony’s upcoming flagship will be designed completely anew from the ground up. Also, it is said to feature a 5.2-inch edge-to-edge display with very narrow bezels running along the sides. Apart from that, the new phone is confirmed to come with Snapdragon 835 processor, 4GB RAM, and 64/128GB internal storage.
Additionally, the tipster also mentioned that Sony would include a pair of wireless earphones inside the box of Xperia XZ1 to motivate users towards the new change.
If this rumor is true, it looks like the headphone jack is slowly becoming a thing of past now as more and more next-generation smartphones tend to remove it. All said, we suggest you take this rumor with a rather large pinch of salt as no official source has confirmed its existence.
