Oh no, Sony just can’t do this!
Recently we’ve been learning a lot of stuff about Sony’s upcoming handsets – Xperia XZ2 and XZ2 Compact. We already know the potential hardware specs these handsets will feature under their helm. Besides that, a pixelated render leak (courtesy of Techie State) has also given us an idea of what the XZ2 might actually look like. Check out that picture below:
What you’re looking at is allegedly the front panel of the forthcoming Xperia XZ2 handset. Now, what these photos imply is that the 2018 Xperia phones will have a ground-up redesign and won’t look anything like the current generation handsets. This, if true, also means that Sony fans are going to miss what used to be one of the most significant features of the Xperia phones.
We’re talking about the front-facing stereo speakers that gave the Xperia handsets the much-hated bezels above and below the display. Now, one could argue that no one really uses smartphone speakers these days and so you’re not missing out anything really. But, that’s not the case in reality, at least according to this survey put by GSMArena about a month ago.
The result of this poll suggests that users are ready to give up bezel-less designs in favor of nice stereo front-facing speakers. So, if Sony ditches the front stereo speakers to pull off a full-screen smartphone, it is likely to hurt the interests of the Japanese company’s fans across the globe.
Sure, at this point in time, it’s really difficult to tell if the firm has any plans to do so. But with a majority of Android makers onboard with the new design trend, it’s not a completely impossible scenario.
