Alleged details on the hardware specifications and pricing of the upcoming mid-range smartphone from Xiaomi, Redmi Note 5, has leaked online.

Xiaomi’s current mid-range handset Redmi Note 4 is undoubtedly one of the most popular smartphones in the Asian countries, especially India and China. Launched back in August last year, it surely packs pretty decent specifications for a very cheap price, i.e., it offers incredible value for your money. However, the phone is now almost a year old, and it’s about time for the Chinese company to bring a successor to the Redmi Note series.

While the launch date of Redmi Note 5 is unknown for now, leaks detailing specifications and pricing of the device has surfaced online. As per leaks, it will run the mobile software MIUI 9 based on Android Nougat on a big 5.5-inch FullHD display. Under the hood, it will probably house a Qualcomm Snapdragon 630 chipset along with 3790 mAh battery. In case you didn’t know, the Snapdragon 630 is a relatively new chipset, and comes with eight Kyro 260 cores, of which four are clocked at 2.2GHz while the other four at 1.8GHz. It is worth noting that this is the first chipset to come with Kyro processors. Besides, the GPU has also seen an upgrade to Adreno 512 which is reportedly 30% faster than Adreno 510 on SD653.

Interestingly, if you look at the battery capacity of upcoming Redmi Note 5 (3790 mAh) — it is lower than that of Note 4 (4000 mAh). However, the power efficiency of the new chipset and QuickCharge 4.0 feature should do the trick and provide pretty decent battery life.

Like previous generations, the Redmi Note 5 too will come in multiple storage variants, including 3GB RAM + 32GB storage, 4GB RAM + 32GB storage and 4GB RAM + 64GB storage. As is the case with every Redmi phones, the Note 5 is also rumored to carry pocket-friendly price tags. Speaking of which, the base variant will be priced at CNY 1200 that translates to $175, while the other two variants are tipped to cost CNY 1400 ($205) and CNY 1500 ($220) respectively. Although no details regarding the launch of Note 5 is official, the phone is expected to debut towards the end of this month.
