Valve Software is all set to launch a beta update for Steam Client application that will come with an upgraded library. The release for this beta update is set on September 17. This library upgrade has been something that Valve had promised to deliver to its fans for a long time now.
Steam writes about the recent update on its blog, “A good library shouldn’t just be dusty shelves. It has to be a fun place to explore and find whatever it is that you are looking for. Whether you want to keep up to date about what’s happening with your games, find a game to play with your friends, or explore what’s happening in your game’s community, your library should support you.”
The basic idea is that Valve wants you to know that you own the game. Let us look at the new features of the library.
1) The upgraded library promises to be overwhelming. You can see the game list on the left, and the remaining page will provide information about a single game. Discord displays information that we want to know and the games our friends are playing. Steam will now display similar information. The new Steam library will have a landing page that will display recent games and friend activity. You can create your game shelves too.
2) The new library update also comes with a new Events shelf. Developers can now make posts and spread them out to different presentation points on Steam. The events will be visible on the ‘what’s new’ category. Steam will push the events to the game store and community pages.
Valve has been facing huge competition from Discord. So it has upgraded its library and enhanced its communication features to keep up with the pace.
