T-Mobile’s first 600MHz-supported Android smartphone is finally up for pre-orders.
Unless you have been living under a rock, you’d probably have heard about T-Mobile and its billion dollar project to roll out a 600MHz with an eye on closing its coverage gap vis-à-vis key competitors like Verizon and AT&T. So far, there has been one glaring gap in its efforts in that direction – the company did not have a phone compatible with its 600MHz network. However, T-Mobile is all set to change that by introducing its first 600MHz-friendly device – the LG V30. The smartphone will be available in the company’s stores starting October 13, with pre-orders opening on October 5.
In its unlocked version, the LG V30 costs a momentous $800. T-Mobile, of course, is following the market trend of installment plans and leases, and offering the device for a down payment of $80, followed by a 24-month Equipment Installment Plan billed at $30 a month.

So, we already know that T-Mobile is pumping in an insane amount of money and effort into actualizing its plans of rolling out a 600MHz low-band spectrum across the US, and intends to cover a million square miles by the end of this year. The LG V30 will play a significant role in making sure that T-Mobile users can make the most of its LTE network, as it is the band 71-compatible device needed to use this new network.
Since it is the only band 71-compatible phone available on the network right now, it simplifies the phone buying plans for every T-Mobile loyalist out there, because why would you want to miss out the benefits of the 600MHz network when you don’t have to.
Of course, the company will introduce more compatible devices in the future. Company CTO Neville Ray has already announced that a compatible Samsung device will also be launched by the end of the year, but in all likelihood, it won’t be one from the phone maker’s line up of flagship phones. So, if you are planning to invest in a high-end phone, hold on to it for more than a year, and want to be ready for the 600MHz LTE network when it is thrown open to consumers, the LG V30 is the way to go.
