The Big Buddy Talker — does that ring a bell for you? Yes, it’s an upgraded variant of the good ol’ little buddy talker.

After successfully exceeding the pledged goal and shipping the orders as promised, the guy behind the Little Buddy Talker — Patrick Thomas Mitchell — is back with yet another Kickstarter campaign. This time around, he’s bringing an upgraded variant of the original “talker” Arduino shield, dubbed The Big Buddy Talker.

As you’d expect from the naming convention, the new Big Buddy Talker is quite an upgrade over its predecessor. Opposed to the 254-word library of the LBT, the new BBT ups the ante by introducing 508-word library. This means the first 254 words present in the new library will remain the same as before. While the remaining words will be added as per user suggestions in the comments section of KS campaign.

The Big Buddy Talker will be powered by the same voice as that of the Little Buddy Talker. So, you’re still stuck with Lucy who (that?) features a female voice with an English accent.

The BBT kit, which is compatible with both Arduino and Raspberry Pi, comes with 8x female to male connector cables out of the box. The shield features 5v (also 3.3v compatible) power supply line, a DC ground line, an SPI clock line, and SPI Data line, and four chip select lines – one for each of the four audio chips.

Visit ‘The Big Buddy Talker’ Kickstarter page via the source link below to know more about the product and show your support. Speaking of support, a pledge of at least CA$21 will fetch you a complete DIY kit of the shield.
