Xiaomi adds three new smartphones to their Mi flagship lineup.
Xiaomi, on Thursday, launched not one, not two, but three new smartphones as part of their usual annual upgrade cycle of the Mi flagship lineup. The newly released handsets include Mi 8, Mi 8 SE, and Mi 8 Explorer Edition. All the three handsets feature a brand new design; they come with a four-way curved glass rear, aluminum framing, and a notch on top of the display for housing camera sensors.
First off, let’s start with the original Mi 8 model. This variant comes with a large 6.21-inch AMOLED screen with a Full HD+ display resolution and 18:9 aspect ratio. Specs include Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 chipset, 6GB RAM, dual rear camera (12MP+12MP), 20MP front-facing shooter, and 3400mAh battery. This particular variant is available in three storage variants with the 6GB/64GB variant costing CNY 2699, the 6/128GB variant priced at CNY 2999, and the 6GB/256GB variant going for CNY 3299.
The Mi 8 Explorer Edition features the same display, processor, and cameras as the original model. However, it’s worth noting that this one is available only in 8GB RAM, 128GB storage configuration. Unlike the Mi 8 and Mi 8 SE that have the fingerprint reader located on the rear, the Explorer Edition is the first commercial smartphone to feature an under-display fingerprint scanner. It sells for CNY 3799, that roughly translates to $590. Another highlight of this edition is the transparent rear, that enables you to have a peek at what’s inside the handset.
Oddly enough, the Explorer Edition is backed by a 3000mAh battery.
As you’d expect from the naming, the SE edition is the watered-down variant of the original Mi 8. It is powered by a Snapdragon 710 chipset and is available in 6GB and 4GB RAM variants. Besides that, other specs include 5.88-inch AMOLED Full HD+ display, 64GB storage, dual rear cameras (12MP+5MP), and 20MP front-facing camera. Backed by a 3120mAh battery, this variant will set you back CNY 1799, that roughly translates to $281.
