Xperia 1 VII may have a boring design, but its ‘Walkman’ features have the fans excited

Let’s face it — Sony Xperia phones don’t exactly sport a cutting-edge design we’ve come to expect from top smartphone brands such as Apple and Samsung. In fact, the Japanese tech giant has been reusing the same boring outdated design with considerable top and bottom bezels in their flagship Xperia 1 models for at least five years now. And yes, that is not changing in the case of the upcoming Xperia 1 VII flagship either, well, at least according to the leaked official renders of the smartphone. But what smartphone enthusiasts don’t realize is that most Xperia buyers don’t really care what their smartphone looks like, and what excites them are the niche top-notch features such as exceptional 4K OLED displays with 21:9 aspect ratio, pro-grade camera with advanced manual settings, clean junk-free Android experience, and premium audio experience with headphone jack, LDAC support, DSEE Ultimate, and front-facing stereo speakers. And this time around, it appears that Sony is all set to up their own game by not just integrating features from their best-selling product lines like Bravia TVs and Alpha cameras, but also from their beloved high-end MP3 player model — Walkman.

Walkman features in Xperia 1 VII

Sony has indicated that its upcoming Xperia 1 VII smartphone will be powered by Walkman in a recently released teaser, and while that’s good news, it’s not clear whether we will see any improvements on the hardware side of things besides may be a rebrand of their Music app to Walkman. If the latter is true, this would mean a rebrand reversal as the default music player app in Xperia phones used to be called ‘Walkman’ until the company renamed it to ‘Music’ in 2015 in an attempt to avoid confusion among new users.

    Specs of Xperia 1 VII

Besides Walkman, Sony Xperia 1 VII will also be powered by BRAVIA screen technology and Alpha camera prowess. It will come with a 6.5-inch 4K OLED display with 120Hz refresh rate and 19:5:9 aspect ratio, Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset, a 12MP front-facing camera, a triple rear camera setup housing 48MP primary sensor, 12MP ultrawide sensor and 12MP telephoto sensor, 5000mAh battery, and two storage/RAM configuration — 12GB RAM/256GB storage and 16GB RAM/512GB storage.

Abhin’s love for all things tech started when he got his first smartphone, Galaxy S (the first), in 2010. Since then, he has been crazy about technology and tried out all major Android flagships from Samsung, and HTC. He currently uses a Google Pixel 4a as his daily driver.
