Sony has something new in store for the compact phone lovers.

Sony doesn’t launch smartphones as often as Samsung. So, whenever the Japanese tech giant has something new up their sleeve, it never fails to excite the smartphone enthusiasts across the globe. The latest offerings from Sony are not high-end handsets, instead, they’re mid-range devices with some pretty decent specs.

Sony launched two new mid-range Android phones dubbed Xperia R1 and R1 Plus on Friday. These handsets are currently exclusively available for the Indian markets, so if you live outside of India, you’re in hard luck of getting your hands on one of these new Sony handsets.

As far as the specs go, the Xperia R1 comes with a 5.2-inch screen with a display resolution of 720 x 1280 pixels. Under the helm, there is an octa-core Snapdragon 430 processor, 2GB RAM, and 16GB storage.

For the camera department, there is a 13MP shooter on the rear and an 8MP snapper on the front. It runs Android 7.1 Nougat out of the box and is backed by a 2620 mAh battery.

Meanwhile, the Xperia R1 Plus is essentially the Xperia R1, but with 3GB RAM and 32GB of internal storage.

The Xperia R1 will set you back INR 13,990 (about $215, €185). On the other hand, the Plus variant is priced slightly higher at Rs 15,990 (about $245, €211).

Abhin’s love for all things tech started when he got his first smartphone, Galaxy S (the first), in 2010. Since then, he has been crazy about technology and tried out all major Android flagships from Samsung, and HTC. He currently uses a Google Pixel 4a as his daily driver.
